DOMAINE BURONFOSSE
Domaine Buronfosse is a small but highly regarded estate in the Jura wine region of eastern France. Founded in 1999 by Peggy and Jean-Pascal Buronfosse, the domaine is located in the village of Rotalier, just south of Lons-le-Saunier. Originally from Alsace, Peggy and Jean-Pascal moved to the Jura with no background in viticulture but quickly became an integral part of the region’s new wave of artisanal producers.
From the outset, the Buronfosses committed to organic farming, eventually moving towards biodynamic principles. Their philosophy is centered on respect for the land, biodiversity, and minimal intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The vineyards, spread across about 4.5 hectares, are planted to local varieties including Savagnin, Chardonnay, Poulsard, Pinot Noir, and Trousseau.
In the cellar, the approach is equally natural: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, little to no sulfites, and gentle élevage in neutral vessels or older barrels. The wines tend to show a bright, precise, and energetic character, balancing Jura’s rustic charm with finesse and purity. Their Savagnin and Chardonnay are often highlights, showing the region’s limestone and marl terroirs with clarity, while their reds are light, fresh, and aromatic, typical of Jura’s style.
Today, Domaine Buronfosse is recognized as one of the Jura’s rising stars, producing wines that are sought after by sommeliers and wine lovers worldwide for their authenticity, drinkability, and honest expression of place.
