CHATEAU LES ORMES DE PEZ
Château Les Ormes de Pez is a respected estate located in the commune of Saint-Estèphe, in the Médoc region of Bordeaux. The name “Ormes de Pez” translates to “The Elms of Pez,” referencing the elm trees that once grew on the property and the local hamlet of Pez, whose name dates back to the 16th century. The château’s origins go back several centuries, with records of winemaking on the site since at least the early 18th century. Today, it is owned by the Cazes family — the same family behind the prestigious Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac — who have overseen a significant modernization of the vineyards and cellar since acquiring the property in 1936.
Les Ormes de Pez typically shows deep colour, aromas of cassis, blackberry, and cedar, and a palate marked by dense fruit, spice, and graphite notes. While approachable after a few years in bottle, it can also age gracefully for 10–20 years, developing secondary flavours of tobacco, leather, and truffle. The wine’s consistency across vintages has made it one of the most reliable values in classified Bordeaux, especially when compared to its more expensive neighbours in Pauillac and Saint-Julien.
Château Les Ormes de Pez stands as a classic expression of Saint-Estèphe — robust yet refined, generous yet structured. Its combination of old-vine fruit, meticulous vineyard management, and thoughtful cellar work ensures a wine of authenticity and distinction, continuing the Cazes family’s tradition of excellence in the Médoc.
