CHATEAU LAGRANGE
Château Lagrange is a prestigious Third Growth (Troisième Grand Cru Classé) estate located in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. With a history that traces back to the Middle Ages, the estate has long been recognized for the quality of its terroir and its consistent ability to produce wines of structure, balance, and longevity. Its vineyards occupy some of the highest and best-drained gravel soils in Saint-Julien, an area celebrated for producing some of Bordeaux’s most elegant and age-worthy wines.
The modern renaissance of Château Lagrange began in 1983, when the estate was purchased by the Suntory Group of Japan. Under their ownership, Lagrange underwent extensive replanting, modernization of the cellar, and improvements in vineyard management. The result has been a steady rise in quality, placing the château once again among the top performers of the Médoc.
Today, the estate spans about 118 hectares, planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot. The wines are crafted under meticulous care, with a focus on preserving fruit purity, fine tannic structure, and the signature freshness of Saint-Julien.
Château Lagrange produces wines that combine power and refinement, offering classic aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, and tobacco, with an elegant, velvety palate that ages beautifully over decades. The Grand Vin, Château Lagrange, is complemented by a second wine, Les Fiefs de Lagrange, which showcases the estate’s characteristic precision and charm in a more approachable style.
