CHATEAU FILHOT

Château Filhot is a renowned wine estate in the Sauternes AOC of the Graves subregion in Bordeaux, France, known for producing high-quality sweet wines made from noble rot (Botrytis). Classified as a Second Cru Classé (Second Growth) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it is one of the historic and respected producers of Sauternes.

The estate’s history dates back to the 17th century (around 1630–1650), with the current château built in 1709 by Romain de Filhot, who played a key role in establishing the Sauternes name for the region. Château Filhot was historically linked to the famous Lur-Saluces family, related to Château d’Yquem, and today it is operated by the de Vaucelles family

The vineyard covers approximately 62 hectares, planted primarily with Sémillon (60%), Sauvignon Blanc (36%), and Muscadelle (4%). Grapes are carefully hand-harvested in multiple passes to select those affected by noble rot, ensuring concentrated sugars and complex aromatics. The wines are elegant and balanced, offering flavors of candied fruits, honey, and apricot, with refreshing acidity and excellent aging potential.

In addition to the classic Château Filhot Sauternes, the estate also produces special cuvées like Filhot Gold Reserve, further showcasing the richness and finesse of its vineyards. With its long history, iconic grape composition, and signature noble rot style, Château Filhot remains a prized choice for lovers of Sauternes sweet wines.
