CHATEAU DE MALLERET
Château de Malleret is a historic wine estate located in the Haut-Médoc appellation of Bordeaux, France. The estate’s origins trace back to the 16th century when it was established by Pierre Eyquem de Montaigne, the father of philosopher Michel de Montaigne. In 1593, Pierre de Malleret, who served as an equerry to King Louis XIV, acquired the property, and it has since borne his name.
Spanning approximately 350 hectares, the estate features 60 hectares of vineyards planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (36%), and Petit Verdot (4%). The vineyards are situated on well-drained Günzian gravel soils, contributing to the production of wines characterized by elegance and aging potential.
Château de Malleret has earned the designation of Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, reflecting its commitment to quality within the Haut-Médoc classification. The estate produces several wines, including its flagship Château de Malleret Haut-Médoc, the second wine Le Baron de Malleret, Château Barthez from the Haut-Médoc appellation, and Le Margaux de Malleret, sourced from a small parcel in the Margaux appellation.
