CHATEAU DE CHAMBOUREAU
Château de Chamboureau is a historic Loire Valley estate, located in the Anjou / Savennières region. The domaine has roots going back several centuries, and in recent decades it has undergone a revival under the Fournier Longchamps family, who began converting the vineyards to organic farming.
The estate is especially known for its Chenin Blanc wines: in Anjou they produce the Bonne Blanches, a crisp and lively Chenin that features bright apple and citrus notes with a mineral finish. Another important bottling is the Savennières Chenin Blanc, made from steep, well-exposed schist soils. The Champ de la Hutte is a single-site or parcel wine from this estate, showing a bright, honeyed core and a firm mineral frame.
Under the guidance of Hugues Daubercies — who joined the estate and helped push for organic certification — Château de Chamboureau now farms organically, and since 2008 has maintained an organically certified regime. Their winemaking approach includes avoiding malolactic fermentation in order to preserve clarity and acidity, and thus underline the terroir and natural structure of the wines.
Wines from Château de Chamboureau are known for their tension, longevity and purity. The Bonne Blanches Anjou offers a fresh, energetic palate, while their Savennières bottlings (including Champ de la Hutte) lean more mineral, textured and age-worthy. Overall, Chamboureau is a strong example of an Anjou / Savennieres estate that honours traditional Chenin Blanc farming and crafting with a clean, terroir-driven philosophy.
