CHATEAU D'ARMAILHAC
Château d’Armailhac is a distinguished Fifth Growth (Cinquième Grand Cru Classé) estate located in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux’s Médoc region. The château’s history dates back to 1750, when it was founded by the d’Armailhacq family, whose name the estate still bears. It was one of the original properties classified in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, recognized early for the quality of its terroir and its close proximity to some of the region’s most iconic vineyards.
The estate occupies about 76 hectares of vineyards on deep gravelly soils, typical of Pauillac, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, which dominates the plantings. The remainder is composed of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a small amount of Petit Verdot. This classic Left Bank blend produces wines of structure, depth, and aromatic intensity, characterized by notes of blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco, and spice.
Château d’Armailhac is part of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild portfolio, under the same ownership as Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Clerc Milon. Since being brought fully under Rothschild management in the late 20th century, the estate has undergone extensive modernization in both vineyard and cellar, greatly enhancing consistency and quality.
Today, Château d’Armailhac is celebrated for offering a refined and approachable expression of Pauillac, combining the power and depth typical of the appellation with an elegance and charm that make it enjoyable both in youth and after years of aging. Its wines embody the balance between structure, richness, and sophistication, reflecting the precision and heritage of the Rothschild family’s winemaking legacy.
