The 2021 Domaine Rossignol-Février Pommard Les Vigniots is a beautifully crafted expression of Côte de Beaune Pinot Noir, combining the firm, structured character traditionally associated with Pommard with the elegance and finesse of Frédéric Rossignol-Février’s biodynamic approach. The domaine is based in Volnay and has been in the Rossignol family for generations, with approximately seven hectares across Volnay, Pommard and Beaune. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically, with grapes harvested by hand and individual parcels vinified separately to preserve their distinctive terroir character. The 2021 vintage brings freshness, energy and precision, making this a particularly refined expression of Pommard.
The nose is elegant and expressive, revealing aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry and blackberry, layered with violet, dried rose petals and subtle earthy spice. As the wine opens, more savoury notes of black tea, cedar, forest floor, leather and gentle pepper emerge, together with a delicate mineral character. There is a lovely balance between vibrant red fruit and the darker, more structured character typical of Pommard, giving the wine both freshness and depth.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied, refined and beautifully structured, with bright cherry, raspberry and dark berry flavours supported by lively acidity and finely grained tannins. The palate has a taut, linear quality, with excellent energy and precision rather than excessive weight. Subtle notes of cassis, plum, pepper, earth and mineral complexity add depth through the mid-palate, while the restrained use of older oak allows the purity of the fruit and vineyard character to remain at the forefront. The finish is long, savoury and refreshing, with lingering red berries, spice, earthy nuances and mineral freshness. The 2021 has the structure to develop beautifully while retaining the elegance and freshness of the vintage.
