The 2018 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny is a beautifully expressive village Burgundy from one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most celebrated domaines, offering an exceptional combination of elegance, perfume and depth. The wine comes primarily from Les Porlottes, complemented by small parcels in the Premier Cru vineyards of Les Baudes and Les Fuées, giving it a level of pedigree well beyond what is normally expected from a village appellation. The warm and generous 2018 vintage has produced a particularly concentrated style, but de Vogüé’s careful winemaking preserves the freshness, floral character and finesse that define the domaine.
The nose is expressive and beautifully perfumed, revealing aromas of ripe raspberry, black cherry, boysenberry and cassis, layered with violet, rose petal and subtle floral notes. As the wine opens, hints of orange zest, gentle spice, wet limestone and earthy complexity emerge, adding depth to the generous fruit. There is a lovely balance between the darker fruit character of the 2018 vintage and the lifted, floral personality that is so characteristic of Chambolle-Musigny.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied, supple and beautifully concentrated, with layers of ripe raspberry, dark cherry and cassis supported by fresh acidity and finely grained tannins. The fruit is generous and succulent, yet the wine retains excellent tension and energy through the mid-palate, with mineral and citrus nuances adding definition. Subtle spice and savoury complexity gradually emerge, while the tannins provide a firm but polished framework. The finish is long, fresh and savoury, with lingering dark cherry, raspberry, floral notes, orange zest and mineral freshness. Although the 2018 vintage gives the wine a richer and more powerful character than the cooler 2021, it retains the elegance and precision expected from de Vogüé.
