VALDESPINO
Valdespino is one of the oldest and most respected names in Sherry, with roots tracing back to 1264 when King Alfonso X rewarded knight Alfonso Valdespino with land in Jerez. The family began commercial winemaking by the 15th century, and in 1875 the company was formally established. After centuries under family ownership, Valdespino became part of Grupo Estévez in 1999, ensuring both preservation and modernization of its historic legacy.
The house is renowned for its deep connection to terroir, particularly the prestigious Pago Macharnudo Alto, one of the highest and most acclaimed vineyard sites in Jerez Superior. Its albariza soils—brilliant white chalk—contribute minerality, finesse, and longevity to the wines. Valdespino is also among the few bodegas that continue fermenting in traditional American oak butts rather than entirely adopting stainless steel, underscoring its commitment to heritage methods.
Under Grupo Estévez, Valdespino balances tradition with modern standards, maintaining old soleras while refurbishing its bodegas and facilities. With its unique focus on single-vineyard identity in a region often dominated by blended soleras, Valdespino continues to stand out as a benchmark producer, marrying centuries of history with wines of extraordinary depth and authenticity.
