The 2024 Quealy KK01 Pinot Noir is a finely tuned and site-driven Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir, sourced from two organically farmed MV6 blocks planted in 1994 at Quealy’s Balnarring vineyard. Crafted with a strong focus on purity and structure, the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with a higher proportion of whole bunches before spending 12 months in seasoned French oak hogsheads, resulting in a more detailed and savoury expression of Pinot Noir. The nose is lifted and aromatic, revealing red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry layered with floral perfume, dried herbs and gentle spice. There is a distinctive earthy and mineral edge, with subtle whole-bunch character adding notes of briar, forest floor and savoury complexity. The oak influence remains restrained, allowing the vineyard character and bright fruit profile to take centre stage.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with fine, persistent tannins and bright natural acidity that gives the wine energy and structure. The fruit profile is vibrant and crunchy, centred on red berries and cherry, supported by spice, earthy nuance and mineral tension. Compared to broader or softer Pinot styles, the KK01 shows more definition and savoury detail, leading to a long, finely structured and persistent finish.

At Wine More Cellars, this is a fantastic example of modern Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir — combining brightness, savoury complexity and finesse in a highly drinkable style. Compared to richer, more fruit-driven Pinot expressions, the KK01 leans toward a more structured and site-expressive profile, with excellent tension and mineral detail. It’s approachable in its youth but has enough structure to reward short to medium-term cellaring. Enjoy now with a light decant or cellar through 2032+ as it develops further earthy and savoury complexity. Perfect with duck, roast pork, mushroom dishes or charcuterie.
