The 2022 Quealy Turbul Ribolla Gialla is a distinctive skin-contact white from the Quealy family's organically farmed Balnarring vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula. Inspired by the great orange wines of Friuli in northeast Italy, the Ribolla Gialla fruit was fermented on skins for several months before spending 36 months in seasoned oak, creating a wine of remarkable texture, depth and complexity.
The nose offers layers of mandarin oil, quince, citrus peel, yellow flowers and spice, with savoury notes of herbs, nuts and umami. The palate is richly textured yet fresh, combining vibrant acidity with fine tannins and a long, complex finish. Deeply savoury and highly expressive, it showcases why Ribolla Gialla is regarded as one of the world's great varieties for skin-contact winemaking.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A fascinating orange wine for adventurous drinkers and lovers of Friulian styles. Textural, savoury and beautifully layered, it pairs brilliantly with roast pork, mushroom dishes, duck pancakes, aged cheeses and Mediterranean cuisine. Decant before serving and enjoy now through 2032 as its complexity continues to evolve.
