PRESSING MATTERS

Pressing Matters is a distinguished, family-owned winery situated in the scenic Coal River Valley of Southern Tasmania, approximately a 30‑minute drive north of Hobart and just outside Richmond. Established in 2002 by Greg Melick AO SC and his wife Michelle, the estate released its first vintage in 2006 and expanded significantly in 2019 with the acquisition of nearby Morningside Vineyard, bringing deeper vine heritage and scale to its operations.

Led by winemaker Samantha Connew, Pressing Matters practices minimal-intervention winemaking. Their approach emphasizes handling fruit gently, preserving vibrancy, and expressing the purity of the terroir—summed up in their philosophy: “Not stuffing it up”. The estate has earned widespread acclaim, their Pinot Noir is “highly desirable” for its concentration and elegance.
