The 2022 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros is a generous yet finely balanced 100% Chardonnay from one of Chablis’ seven Grand Cru vineyards. William Fèvre is one of the region’s benchmark domaines, recognised for wines that combine precise fruit with a clear expression of their vineyard origins. Its Bougros comes from several parcels on gentler slopes with deeper soils, contributing to the wine’s characteristically broad, rounded texture. With vines averaging around 60 years of age, this cuvée offers substantial depth and concentration, bringing together the richness of Grand Cru Chardonnay and Chablis’ distinctive freshness.

Expect ripe pear, peach and Mirabelle plum, complemented by white flowers, citrus peel, wet stone and subtle praline notes. The palate is ample and fleshy, with a creamy texture balanced by acidity and a saline finish. William Kelley awarded the wine 93 Points for The Wine Advocate, highlighting its generous fruit and broad yet savoury character. Christy Canterbury MW awarded 94 Points on TimAtkin.com, praising its balance and length, while Jasper Morris MW rated it 92–95 Points in an early assessment, recognising its tension, concentration and persistence. This is a particularly appealing expression of Bougros’ naturally generous style.

Ben’s Recommendation:
What makes this bottle particularly attractive is its combination of Grand Cru depth and an inviting, rounded texture. For someone who enjoys fuller white Burgundy, Bougros offers a rewarding way to explore Chablis while retaining the freshness and saline character that make the region distinctive. It can be enjoyed young with air, although I would ideally cellar it until 2028–2030 and drink through approximately 2038, assuming excellent storage. With time, the pear and stone fruit should develop towards hazelnut, honey and more savoury complexity. Allow it to unfold in a large white Burgundy glass, tasting before deciding whether to decant. Pair it with lobster, scallops, roast chicken or turbot with a creamy sauce.
