The 2023 Marc-Antonin Blain Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru “Morgeot” Rouge is a finely structured Pinot Noir from one of Chassagne-Montrachet’s most historic and important Premier Cru climats. Produced by the emerging domaine of Marc-Antonin Blain — descended from the renowned Blain-Gagnard family — the wine reflects a modern, terroir-driven approach focused on purity, restraint and transparency.

Morgeot is one of the largest and most respected Premier Cru sites in Chassagne-Montrachet, particularly known for producing serious red Burgundy with more depth and structure than many surrounding vineyards. The 2023 vintage delivered ripe yet balanced fruit with excellent freshness, resulting in wines that combine approachability with classical Burgundy tension and cellar potential.

The nose is expressive and layered, showing red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry alongside earthy spice, rose petal and subtle forest-floor complexity. Carefully controlled élevage keeps oak in the background, allowing mineral character and vineyard expression to remain the focus. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and fine tannins supporting detailed red fruit and savoury nuances. Compared to more polished Côte de Nuits styles, Morgeot Rouge carries a slightly firmer, more mineral-driven structure while still retaining elegance and finesse. The finish is long, composed and quietly powerful, with excellent balance between fruit purity and savoury complexity.

Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a fantastic “insider Premier Cru Burgundy” for customers who enjoy serious Pinot Noir without stepping into the pricing of Vosne-Romanée or Chambolle-Musigny. Compared to Gevrey-Chambertin, it’s slightly more lifted and mineral; compared to Chambolle, it carries more savoury earthiness and structure. Marc-Antonin Blain remains relatively under the radar, which makes wines like this especially exciting for Burgundy lovers seeking authenticity and value before wider recognition arrives. The 2023 vintage is particularly attractive because it combines freshness, purity and early charm with excellent ageing potential. Drink from 2027 onwards or cellar for 10–15+ years. Perfect with duck, quail, mushroom dishes or refined French cuisine.
