CHATEAU LYNCH BAGES
Château Lynch-Bages is one of the most iconic estates in Pauillac, Bordeaux, and a perennial overachiever among the Fifth Growths (Cinquièmes Crus Classés) in the 1855 Classification. Known for its bold, powerful, and consistently reliable wines, Lynch-Bages has become a favorite among collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.
The estate’s history dates back to the 18th century, when it was founded by Thomas Lynch, a descendant of Irish immigrants who settled in Bordeaux. Located on the Bages plateau, just southwest of Pauillac village, the château benefits from deep gravel soils over limestone, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon — the backbone of classic Médoc structure and longevity.
The vineyard covers around 100 hectares, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (24%), Cabernet Franc (3%), and Petit Verdot (3%). This composition produces wines that are quintessentially Pauillac: structured, dark-fruited, and muscular, yet with an underlying elegance that has grown more pronounced in recent decades.
Since 1973, the property has been owned and transformed by the Cazes family, whose commitment to quality and modernization has elevated Lynch-Bages into the ranks of Bordeaux’s most admired châteaux. The current technical director, Jean-Charles Cazes, continues to refine the estate’s style, combining traditional gravity-flow winemaking with a state-of-the-art winery completed in 2020.
