Established in 2000 by Maria Bianucci and Gigi Garanzini, Bricco Giubellini is the highest vineyard in Monforte d'Alba at 530 metres and the smallest single vineyard at just 0.33 hectares. The wines, made by our friend Fabio Fantino, have until recently only been available locally - locally, as in the village of Monforte! We liked the wines so much we bought the bulk of their production from 2007 onwards. The vineyard is West facing and planted on clayey, calcareous, marly soil. 530 meters is considered the upper limit for Nebbiolo in Barolo, but as the vintages get warmer the freshness and elegance of the site has become a defining feature. Best of all, cru Barolo at a great price.
