The 2024 Battle of Bosworth Expat Pinot Noir is a rare and distinctive wine – one of the few remaining examples of 100% Pinot Noir grown in McLaren Vale. Produced from certified organic vineyards by Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith, the wine is deliberately crafted in a lighter, Beaujolais-inspired style, with early picking, a portion of whole bunch fermentation and minimal oak influence. The result is a fresh, vibrant Pinot Noir that prioritises perfume, drinkability and bright fruit expression.

The nose reveals sour cherry, strawberry and cranberry alongside rose petal, spice and subtle floral notes. Light to medium-bodied, the palate is juicy and energetic, with crunchy red fruits, fine chalky tannins and a gentle savoury edge. Ray Jordan awarded the wine 92 points, praising its poise, brightness and appeal, while Jeni Port highlighted its cranberry, blood orange and spice-driven character. Fresh, expressive and wonderfully approachable, it finishes with impressive purity and lift.

Ben’s Recommendation:
A terrific alternative for Pinot lovers looking for something a little different. Bright, juicy and incredibly easy to drink, it pairs beautifully with charcuterie, roast chicken, duck, salmon and mushroom dishes. Serve slightly chilled for maximum enjoyment and drink over the next 3–5 years while its vibrant fruit and freshness are at their peak.
