ARTUKE
Artuke is a small, highly regarded winery and wine label from Rioja Alavesa, a sub-region of Rioja in northern Spain, known for its precise, terroir-driven style that stands apart from more traditional Rioja wines.
Artuke (the name comes from the brothers Arturo and Kike de Miguel, who run the estate) focuses on expressing the character of the land rather than following Rioja’s conventional aging classifications such as Crianza or Reserva. Their vineyards are organically farmed, and winemaking often embraces minimal intervention techniques—including whole-cluster fermentation and gentle maceration—so that the wines reflect the nuances of the soil, altitude and microclimate of each site.
The winery’s range includes a variety of Rioja wines, from the base Artuke red wine—typically around 95% Tempranillo with a small percentage of white Viura, fresh fruit and balanced acidity — to more distinctive bottlings sourced from specific plots. These single-vineyard wines include Finca de Los Locos, El Escolladero, Paso Las Mañas and La Condenada, showcasing older vines and unique terroirs.
Artuke’s wines are often described as fresh, expressive and fruit-forward, with floral and berry aromas and a lively palate, and they are part of a broader movement of Rioja producers rethinking traditional wine styles in favor of terroir expression and authenticity.
