Albârino
Albariño is a premium white grape variety best known from Rías Baixas in Galicia, northwest Spain, where the cool Atlantic climate produces some of the world’s most vibrant and aromatic white wines. In Portugal, the grape is known as Alvarinho, particularly in the Vinho Verde region.
Albariño wines are celebrated for their bright acidity, refreshing citrus character and distinctive mineral freshness. Typical aromas include lime, lemon zest, green apple, peach and white flowers, often with subtle hints of saline or sea breeze influenced by the coastal vineyards where the grape thrives.
Medium-bodied yet lively, Albariño offers a crisp texture and excellent balance, making it one of the most food-friendly white wines. It pairs beautifully with seafood, oysters, grilled fish, sushi and Mediterranean cuisine.
Today, Albariño is increasingly planted in Spain, Portugal, Australia and the United States, where winemakers are exploring its potential in cool-climate regions. Its fresh style and aromatic complexity have made Albariño one of the most exciting white grape varieties in modern winemaking.
