The 2021 Adams Ingelheim Spätburgunder is a biodynamically farmed Pinot Noir from Rheinhessen, produced by Dr. Simone Adams at AdamsWein. Sourced from old south- and southwest-facing vineyards around Ingelheim, where limestone-rich soils play a defining role, the wine reflects the estate’s focus on purity, site expression and minimal intervention. Fermented with around 30% whole bunches and matured in large oak, it has become one of Germany’s most exciting value Pinot Noirs.

The nose shows red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate alongside dried rose petals, violets, forest floor and subtle spice. Medium-bodied and finely structured, the palate combines vibrant red fruit with earthy complexity, fresh acidity and silky tannins, finishing long with mineral and savoury notes. James Suckling awarded the wine 94 points, while Falstaff rated it 92 points, praising its structure, purity and distinctive limestone-driven character.

Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb German Pinot Noir that offers a Burgundian feel at a fraction of the price. Elegant, savoury and highly food-friendly, it pairs beautifully with duck, roast chicken, pork loin, charcuterie and mushroom dishes. Enjoy now with a short decant or cellar through 2030–2033 as it develops further complexity.
