The 2024 Gentle Folk Onkaparinga Valley Sangiovese is a single-vineyard Adelaide Hills red from the Turnbull Family Vineyard in Charleston. The Sangiovese vines were planted in 1998 at around 460 metres elevation on sandy loam over siltstone and sandstone. The wine shows bright red cherry and darker berry fruit alongside citrus peel, herbs, pepper and savoury spice.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and energetic, with fresh acidity, fine but persistent tannins and a savoury, spicy finish. The fruit was fully destemmed and fermented with extended skin contact, with only the free-run wine matured for 10 months in a combination of terracotta and French oak before bottling unfined and unfiltered.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Sangiovese drinkers who enjoy elegant reds with bright fruit, savoury complexity and structured tannins. Enjoy now or cellar for further development. Ideal with tomato-based pasta, roast lamb, grilled pork, mushroom dishes, pizza or aged cheeses.
