The 2024 Domaine Daniel Bouland Côte de Brouilly Cuvée Mélanie is a beautifully intense and mineral-driven Gamay from one of Beaujolais’ most revered traditional growers. Produced from old vines planted on the steep volcanic and blue-stone slopes of Côte de Brouilly, the wine reflects Daniel Bouland’s low-intervention philosophy, combining concentration and depth with remarkable freshness and precision. Named in honour of Bouland’s daughter, Cuvée Mélanie captures the darker, more structured side of Gamay while retaining the vibrancy and perfume that define great Beaujolais. The nose reveals blackberry, black cherry and wild raspberry layered alongside violet, crushed stone and subtle earthy spice, giving the wine impressive complexity and lift.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with silky but finely structured tannins, vibrant natural acidity and a tightly focused mineral core. Layers of dark berry fruit, savoury spice and delicate earthy complexity are balanced by freshness and volcanic tension, finishing long, poised and beautifully persistent with excellent depth and ageing potential. Traditional semi-carbonic vinification and élevage in older barrels preserve the purity and energy of Gamay while allowing the vineyard’s mineral detail and structure to emerge with remarkable clarity.
