The Last Thylacine batch 8
- Description
- Info
The Last Thylacine Batch 8 is a premium Tasmanian single malt whisky produced by Launceston Distillery and Kreglinger Wine Estates, crafted entirely from locally grown and malted Tasmanian barley and pure South Esk River water. Matured in re-charred ex-Tasmanian fortified wine casks, the whisky follows a traditional double-distillation process inspired by Scottish whisky-making while expressing a distinctly Tasmanian identity. The brand pays tribute to the legendary Tasmanian Tiger (Thylacine), reflecting the wild landscape, purity and mystery of Tasmania itself.
The nose reveals rich toffee, vanilla bean and caramelised stone fruit layered with dried apricot, baking spice and toasted oak. On the palate, it is smooth and warming with a silky texture, delivering flavours of honeycomb, butterscotch, malt biscuit and dark fruit balanced by gentle spice and oak complexity. Layers of raisin, orange peel, toffee and subtle chocolate unfold with impressive richness and depth, finishing long, rounded and beautifully integrated with lingering sweet spice and oak warmth. The fortified cask influence gives the whisky a generous fruit profile while maintaining elegance and balance.
Ben’s Recommendation:
The Last Thylacine Batch 8 is a polished and characterful Tasmanian single malt — rich, smooth and packed with caramel, dried fruit and warming spice complexity. A fantastic introduction to premium Tasmanian whisky while still offering enough depth for seasoned whisky drinkers. Best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water alongside dark chocolate, aged cheddar, roasted nuts or after-dinner conversation.
