The 2019 Taupenot-Merme Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru “Les Pruliers” is one of the standout wines in the Taupenot-Merme portfolio, sourced from one of the most respected Premier Cru vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Domaine Taupenot-Merme, based in Morey-Saint-Denis, is renowned for producing wines that combine richness, freshness and precise terroir expression through organic farming and traditional Burgundian winemaking. Les Pruliers is particularly prized for its ability to produce Pinot Noir with both power and complexity, making it one of the Côte de Nuits’ most sought-after Premier Cru sites.
The outstanding 2019 vintage delivered excellent ripeness and concentration while preserving structure and freshness. The nose is deep and expressive, showing dark cherry, blackcurrant and wild berry fruit layered with black pepper, nutmeg, truffle, leather and forest floor notes. Critics have highlighted the wine’s complexity and savoury character, with Neal Martin noting dark berry fruit, leather, sous-bois and brown spice aromas.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with impressive depth and structure. Dense red and dark fruit flavours are framed by fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity and a pronounced mineral backbone. Les Pruliers is known for producing a more muscular, serious style of Nuits-Saint-Georges, and the 2019 vintage showcases this beautifully with its combination of power, tension and ageing potential. The finish is long, savoury and youthfully austere, suggesting many years of evolution ahead.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is one of the finest examples of traditional Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru. Compared to Vosne-Romanée, it is more structured and earthy; compared to Gevrey-Chambertin, it often shows greater mineral intensity and savoury complexity. The 2019 vintage combines concentration, freshness and classic Burgundy balance, making it particularly attractive for collectors. While approachable with extended decanting, this is a serious cellar-worthy Pinot Noir that will continue to improve over the next 15–20+ years. Drink from 2027 onwards. Perfect with duck, venison, roast lamb, game birds and refined French cuisine.
