The 2012 Château Potensac is a classic Médoc from the Delon family, owners of the renowned Château Léoville Las Cases. Often regarded as one of Bordeaux’s best-value traditional clarets, Potensac consistently overperforms its appellation thanks to its exceptional gravel and clay terroir in northern Médoc. The 2012 vintage has matured beautifully, offering the structure and character of Left Bank Bordeaux while now entering a particularly enjoyable stage of development.
The nose reveals blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry aromas alongside cedar, tobacco, graphite and earthy notes. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with ripe dark fruit supported by fine tannins and fresh acidity. Notes of pencil lead, liquorice and savoury spice add complexity, while the finish is long, balanced and distinctly Médoc in character. After more than a decade in bottle, the wine shows impressive harmony while retaining enough structure to continue evolving.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb example of mature Left Bank Bordeaux that delivers outstanding value and pedigree. Its savoury complexity and refined structure make it a natural partner for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, mushroom dishes and aged hard cheeses. Decant for 30–60 minutes before serving and enjoy now through 2032 while its fruit, tertiary character and structure remain beautifully balanced.
