The 2022 Woodstock Collett Lane Cabernet Sauvignon is a single-vineyard McLaren Vale Cabernet sourced from vines planted in 1988 on the estate’s sandy ridge soils. Produced as Woodstock’s flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine reflects the concentration and structure that cooler conditions in the 2022 vintage delivered, while still retaining the richness and depth associated with McLaren Vale. The nose is deeply layered, showing aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum and cassis alongside cedar, cigar box, dark chocolate and baking spice notes.
On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm yet polished tannins and balanced acidity giving the wine both power and control. Concentrated flavours of blackberry, cassis and dark cherry are supported by savoury spice, graphite, tobacco leaf and subtle oak complexity from 18 months maturation in French and American oak hogsheads. The texture is dense and richly structured without becoming heavy, while the finish remains long, refined and persistent with fine tannin grip and lingering dark fruit intensity.
Ben’s Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent option for customers who enjoy structured McLaren Vale reds with depth, concentration and strong cellaring potential. Particularly well suited to roast lamb, grilled ribeye, slow-cooked beef dishes or veal osso bucco. Drinking impressively now with decanting, though the wine’s tannin structure and fruit concentration will reward careful cellaring over the next 15–20 years.
