The 2023 Jérôme Bretaudeau Ornaté is an unconventional and highly distinctive Merlot from the cool, Atlantic-influenced vineyards of the western Loire. Grown biodynamically on granite, sand and white and pink quartz, it offers fragrant aromas of red and black cherry, raspberry and redcurrant, layered with violet, dried flowers, wild herbs, pepper and crushed stone.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied, juicy and energetic - a striking contrast to the richer style often associated with Merlot. Bright acidity and fine, velvety tannins frame the pure fruit, while 14 months in large oak vessels and stainless steel preserve freshness and mineral definition. The finish is long and savoury, with lingering spice, herbs and saline minerality.
