The 2023 Elderton Helbig 1915 Shiraz is a flagship single-vineyard Barossa wine, sourced from extraordinary old vines planted in 1915 on the western ridge of Greenock. Produced in extremely limited quantities (around 700 - 800 bottles), it represents one of the most historic and sought-after Shiraz sites in the region, combining heritage, power and modern refinement.
The nose is intensely layered and expressive, showing plum, blackberry and black cherry, alongside dark chocolate, spice, cedar and subtle earthy notes. There is a distinctive Barossa depth, with hints of roasted meats, baking spice and floral lift adding complexity.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a powerful yet refined structure. Concentrated dark fruit, chocolate and spice are supported by silky, long tannins and fine acidity, leading to a persistent, layered and savoury finish. The 2023 vintage shows slightly more elegance and detail compared to previous releases, sitting at the lighter end of full-bodied while retaining depth and ageing potential.
