The 2023 Sato L’Atypique Riesling is a distinctive skin-contact Riesling from Central Otago, made from hand-picked fruit grown at the Red Shed Vineyard on well-drained alluvial sandy loam and river gravels. The nose is aromatic and layered, showing apple, ripe pear and citrus alongside ginger, orange peel and subtle mineral notes.
On the palate, it is dry and textural with bright acidity and a fine phenolic grip. The fruit was naturally fermented and kept on skins for 28 days before spending 11 months in seasoned French oak, adding savoury depth without obvious oak flavour. The finish is fresh, citrus-driven and gently structured.
