The 2023 Verget Mâcon-Villages Terres de Pierres is a beautifully vibrant and mineral-driven Chardonnay from one of the Mâconnais’ benchmark négociant-producers. Crafted by Jean-Marie Guffens from carefully selected limestone-rich vineyard parcels across the Mâconnais, the wine reflects Verget’s meticulous approach to vineyard sourcing and élevage, balancing ripe southern Burgundy fruit with freshness, precision and terroir transparency. “Terres de Pierres” — meaning “lands of stones” — highlights the stony limestone soils that give the wine its hallmark mineral tension and clarity. The nose reveals lemon zest, green apple and ripe pear layered alongside white flowers, wet stone and subtle toasted almond notes, giving the wine impressive lift and aromatic finesse.
On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied with vibrant natural acidity, silky texture and a finely focused mineral core. Layers of citrus peel, orchard fruit and delicate lees complexity are balanced by saline freshness and chalky tension, finishing long, dry and beautifully persistent with excellent balance and drinkability. Careful élevage in a combination of stainless steel and older oak barrels preserves the wine’s crystalline purity while adding subtle texture and depth without overwhelming the energetic character of the fruit.
