The 2023 Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers is a highly refined white Burgundy from one of the Côte de Beaune’s most respected modern producers. Les Vergers is a well-regarded Premier Cru vineyard in Chassagne-Montrachet known for producing Chardonnay with impressive minerality, floral elegance and tension-driven structure. Caroline Morey’s wines have quickly gained cult status for their precision, purity and restrained élevage style.

The nose is elegant and layered, showing white orchard fruit, lemon zest and citrus blossom alongside flinty reduction, subtle wood spice and floral lift. Burghound notes touches of wood and menthol with ripe yet fresh fruit expression, while the 2023 vintage delivers both concentration and energy.

On the palate, it is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and a beautifully balanced structure. Citrus, pear and saline mineral notes are supported by chalky tension and fine texture, leading to a long, focused and slightly austere finish that suggests strong ageing potential. Compared to broader Chassagne styles, Les Vergers leans more toward finesse and precision, with excellent terroir transparency.

Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a serious collector-level white Burgundy and a fantastic example of Caroline Morey’s elegant, mineral-driven style. Compared to richer Meursault styles, it’s more focused, saline and tension-driven; compared to Puligny-Montrachet, it offers slightly more texture while retaining superb precision. Les Vergers is all about finesse, chalky minerality and understated power rather than overt richness or oak. The 2023 vintage is especially attractive because it combines freshness with generosity, making it approachable earlier while still highly cellar-worthy. Best from 2027 onwards or with extended decanting now, and capable of ageing for 12–20+ years. Perfect with lobster, scallops, turbot or refined fine dining.
