The 2023 Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er CruLes Chaumees is a highly refined white Burgundy from one of the Côte de Beaune’s most respected modern producers. Les Chaumees is a limestone-rich Premier Cru vineyard in Chassagne-Montrachet known for producing Chardonnay with floral elegance, mineral tension and impressive ageing potential. Caroline Morey has rapidly established cult status for wines that combine purity, restraint and terroir transparency.
The nose is elegant and layered, showing white peach, lemon-lime and citrus blossom alongside subtle exotic fruit, crushed stone and delicate oak spice. Critics have highlighted the wine’s floral lift and seductively textured profile, while the 2023 vintage delivers both concentration and freshness with remarkable balance.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a caressing, finely textured structure supported by vibrant citrus-driven acidity and chalky minerality. White orchard fruit, saline notes and subtle dry extract carry through a long, youthfully austere and persistent finish. Compared to broader Chassagne styles, Les Chaumées leans more toward finesse, energy and precision while still retaining depth and textural richness from old vines.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a serious collector-level white Burgundy and a fantastic example of Caroline Morey’s elegant, mineral-driven style. Compared to richer Meursault styles, it’s more focused, saline and tension-driven; compared to Puligny-Montrachet, it offers slightly more texture and generosity while retaining outstanding precision. Les Chaumées is all about finesse, chalky minerality and understated power rather than overt richness or oak. The 2023 vintage is especially appealing because it combines approachability with strong ageing potential. Best from 2027 onwards or with extended decanting now, and capable of ageing for 12–20+ years. Perfect with lobster, scallops, turbot or refined fine dining.
