The 2024 Dappled Tradition Cabernets is a modern Yarra Valley Cabernet blend made by Shaun Crinion, sourced from the historic Steels Creek Vineyard planted in 1981. The wine is a blend of approximately 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Cabernet Franc, fermented with wild yeasts and including around 20% whole bunches, before ageing in older French oak barriques.
The nose is intensely lifted and perfumed, showing cassis, blackcurrant and damson plum layered with violets, herbs and subtle spice. There is a strong cool-climate Yarra Valley character, combining Cabernet freshness with aromatic elegance and floral detail.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and fine, energetic tannins. Pure black fruit, spice and savoury herbal notes are supported by freshness rather than oak weight, leading to a long, elegant and highly drinkable finish. The wine has received strong critical acclaim, including around 95+ points from Halliday Wine Companion, highlighting its balance, structure and ageing potential.

At Wine More Cellars, this is one of the best examples of "new-wave Yarra Valley Cabernet" - elegant, perfumed and site-driven rather than heavy or overly oaked. Compared to classic Bordeaux, it’s fresher and more aromatic; compared to traditional Australian Cabernet, it’s lighter on its feet and more focused on purity and drinkability. Shaun Crinion has become one of the standout minimal-intervention producers in the Yarra Valley, and this wine perfectly captures that modern style. Drink now with some air or cellar for 6–10+ years. Perfect with roast lamb, duck, chargrilled meats or refined casual dining.
