The 2024 Place of Changing Winds Syrah No.2 is a vibrant and finely detailed blend that showcases the house style in its most approachable form. Sourced from both Harcourt (30%) and Heathcote (70%), it brings together the perfume and finesse of granite soils with the depth and structure of Cambrian ironstone, creating a wine that balances elegance and intensity. The nose is lifted and expressive, showing red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate layered with violet, spice and subtle herbal notes. There is a distinct savoury and mineral edge, with hints of pepper, crushed rock and gentle whole-bunch spice adding complexity and aromatic lift.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with fine, powdery tannins and bright acidity that gives the wine energy and flow. The fruit profile leans toward fresh red berries rather than dense dark fruit, supported by spice, mineral nuance and a lightly savoury character. The cooler 2024 vintage delivers a more "pinot-like" weight - supple, sappy and floral - with a long, clean and persistent finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is one of the most exciting "entry-level" Syrahs in Australia - though it drinks far above that category. Compared to the single-vineyard wines, it’s more approachable and earlier drinking, but still carries the same precision and site expression. Stylistically, it sits closer to a Northern Rhône Syrah or even a Pinot-Syrah hybrid feel, with lift, spice and finesse rather than power. Enjoy now or cellar through 2032+ for added savoury complexity. Perfect with lamb, charcuterie, roast chicken or herb-driven dishes.
