The 2025 Meadowbank Pinot Noir is one of Tasmania’s most anticipated Pinot Noir releases, following the extraordinary success of the 2024 vintage, which won both the Jimmy Watson Trophy for Best Young Red Wine and the James Halliday Trophy for Best Pinot Noir at the 2025 Melbourne Royal Wine Awards. Crafted by Peter Dredge from vines originally planted by Gerald Ellis in 1987, Meadowbank continues to be one of Tasmania’s benchmark Pinot Noir producers.
Sourced from a north-facing block in the Derwent Valley, the vineyard sits on loose sand and sandstone over the region’s distinctive iron-rich coffee rock soils. The 2025 season produced a balanced crop of exceptional fruit, resulting in a wine that is refined, detailed and beautifully expressive. Hand-harvested over two weeks, the wine was fermented on skins before maturing for nine months in French oak, with only a small proportion of new barrels.
The nose is vibrant and lifted, showing aromas of strawberry, cherry and raspberry alongside subtle earthy and savoury notes. On the palate, it is silky and elegant, with layers of red berry fruit, bright natural acidity and fine tannins. A hallmark mineral freshness runs through the wine, giving it energy, precision and impressive length.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, Meadowbank is one of Tasmania’s great Pinot Noir addresses. Compared to many Mornington Peninsula Pinots, it is lighter on its feet and more mineral-driven; compared to Central Otago, it shows greater elegance and restraint. The 2025 vintage captures everything that makes Tasmanian Pinot Noir so highly regarded—purity, freshness and finesse. Following the success of the 2024 release, this is a wine that collectors and Pinot lovers should not overlook. Drink from 2026 onwards or cellar comfortably for 8–12+ years. Perfect with duck, quail, salmon, mushroom dishes and refined modern Australian cuisine.
