A benchmark cool-climate Shiraz Viognier from Bryan Martin, drawing on nearly two decades of estate-grown fruit in Murrumbateman. Co-fermented with a small portion of Viognier, the wine focuses on perfume, spice and silky texture in a distinctly Canberra District style. The nose shows red cherry, raspberry and blueberry alongside violet, white pepper, dried herbs and floral spice. There’s a lifted aromatic freshness and savoury complexity that gives the wine elegance and detail.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with fine tannins, bright acidity and supple red fruit carrying through the finish. Silky and beautifully balanced, with cool-climate freshness, spice and subtle earthy savouriness adding depth and length.
Ben’s Recommendation:
One of Australia’s finest cool-climate Shiraz Viogniers — fragrant, refined and beautifully composed without excess weight. More Rhône-inspired and elegant than richer Australian Shiraz styles, making it exceptionally food friendly. Excellent with lamb, duck or Middle Eastern-spiced dishes. Drink now or cellar through 2035+.
