The 2021 Camille Giroud Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the crown jewels of the Camille Giroud portfolio, sourced from the legendary Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin. Often referred to as the “King of Burgundy,” Chambertin is renowned for producing some of the most powerful, complex and age-worthy Pinot Noirs in the world. Under the stewardship of David Croix and his team, Camille Giroud has become one of Burgundy’s benchmark producers, combining traditional methods with a meticulous, terroir-driven approach. Chambertin itself is regarded as one of Burgundy’s greatest Grand Cru sites, celebrated for wines of depth, structure and extraordinary longevity.
The 2021 vintage displays remarkable finesse and precision. Aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry and red cherry are layered with rose petal, spice and subtle earthy complexity. Around 50% whole bunch fermentation contributes additional perfume and structure. The palate is refined and persistent, with vibrant red fruit, silky tannins and exceptional balance. Jasper Morris MW praised the wine for its stylish, refined character and lovely persistence, while Neal Martin awarded it 94 points, noting its beautifully defined red berry fruit, floral complexity, freshness and long, ferrous finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A magnificent Grand Cru Burgundy that captures the elegance of the 2021 vintage while remaining unmistakably Chambertin. Perfumed, layered and profoundly age-worthy, it pairs beautifully with roast duck, pigeon, venison, beef Wellington, truffle dishes and fine game cuisine. While breathtaking with extended decanting today, this is a wine built for the cellar and should continue to evolve gracefully through 2045–2055 and beyond.
