The 2020 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Château d’Ampuis is a benchmark Northern Rhône Syrah, sourced from some of the appellation’s finest parcels and showcasing the house’s signature power and precision. Crafted primarily from Syrah with a small proportion of Viognier, it reflects the steep, schist-rich slopes of Côte-Rôtie with depth and elegance. The nose is intensely aromatic, offering blackberry, plum and black cherry layered with violet, smoked meat, black pepper and subtle oak spice.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet refined, with concentrated dark fruit, savoury complexity and finely structured tannins. The texture is rich and velvety, balanced by freshness and a long, persistent finish with notes of spice, earth and graphite.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a top-tier Côte-Rôtie for collectors and serious Rhône enthusiasts. It’s powerful yet polished, with excellent ageing potential. Best enjoyed from 2025 onwards or cellared for 10–20 years. Perfect with roast lamb, game, beef dishes or special occasions.
