This wine review is of Arnaud Lambert’s Saumur Brézé Clos Tue Loup from the 2017 vintage. In the glass, this is a very classical expression of Saumur rouge (cabernet franc). Were you wanting a paradigm Saumur red, this would be it. A not quite pale ruby colour in the glass, it has crisp and clipped aromas of red fruits, tobacco and herbs. The palate is dry, medium bodied with modest tannin and medium to high acidity. The wine is unoaked, savoury and fresh in style and has some roundness from time spent post alcoholic fermentation in second and third use oak. The balance and typicity point to a good example of Saumur.
