The 2022 Benjamin et David Duclaux Côte-Rôtie La Chana is the domaine’s most approachable Côte-Rôtie, sourced from a collection of steep granite and gneiss vineyards in the southern part of the appellation. A blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier, it is crafted by brothers Benjamin and David Duclaux, whose elegant, terroir-driven wines have established the estate as one of Côte-Rôtie’s rising stars. Aged in seasoned oak to preserve fruit purity, La Chana captures the floral charm and finesse for which the domaine is renowned.
The nose is highly expressive, offering black cherry, raspberry and plum alongside violet, cracked pepper and subtle smoky notes. Medium-bodied and silky, the palate combines vibrant dark fruit with fresh acidity, fine tannins and a savoury mineral edge. More open-knit and approachable than the domaine’s more structured cuvées, it retains the hallmark elegance and perfume that define great Côte-Rôtie.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A beautifully perfumed Côte-Rôtie that offers an excellent introduction to both the appellation and the Duclaux style. Elegant, fresh and effortlessly drinkable, it pairs wonderfully with roast lamb, duck, grilled beef, game birds and mushroom dishes. Enjoy now with a decant, or cellar through 2035 as it develops further complexity.
