The 2011 Stefano Lubiana Prestige is a rare and highly acclaimed Tasmanian sparkling wine, produced only in exceptional vintages from estate-grown fruit in the Derwent Valley. A blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, this méthode traditionnelle cuvée spent more than a decade ageing on lees before release, creating remarkable depth, texture and complexity. The nose is layered and expressive, revealing aromas of preserved lemon, baked apple and white peach alongside notes of brioche, roasted hazelnut, honeycomb and sea-spray minerality.
On the palate, it is beautifully structured with a fine, persistent bead and vibrant Tasmanian acidity. Flavours of citrus, baked apple and stone fruit are complemented by savoury notes of toast, pastry, roasted nuts and subtle cheese rind complexity developed through extended lees ageing. Despite its richness, the wine remains focused and precise, finishing long, dry and mineral-driven with exceptional persistence.
Ben’s Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding sparkling wine for collectors and Champagne enthusiasts seeking one of Tasmania’s benchmark traditional-method releases. Its combination of maturity, freshness and complexity makes it a superb match for freshly shucked oysters, lobster, scallops, smoked trout or roast chicken. Drinking beautifully now, the wine has the structure and pedigree to continue evolving gracefully over the next 10–15 years.
