The 1991 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a rare mature Grand Cru Chardonnay from the legendary Hill of Corton in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, produced by the domaine most closely associated with Corton-Charlemagne. Bonneau du Martray historically held approximately 9.5 hectares in one contiguous block, making it the largest single owner in the appellation. Its vines stretch from the top to the bottom of the Charlemagne slope, crossing a complex mosaic of limestone, marl, clay and silt. The higher parcels bring citrus, floral character and crystalline freshness, the middle slope contributes structure, while the deeper soils lower on the hill provide power and richness. This extraordinary holding allows Bonneau du Martray to assemble multiple expressions of the same hillside into a wine that has long been regarded as one of the definitive examples of Corton-Charlemagne.
