The 2021 Adams Ingelheim Spätburgunder Heerweg comes from a west-facing limestone vineyard at the foot of the Ingelheimer Berg in Rheinhessen, directly below the renowned Auf dem Haun site. Produced biodynamically by Dr. Simone Adams, the wine was fermented with 100% whole bunches and matured for 18 months in used Burgundian barriques, highlighting the purity and mineral character of this exceptional limestone terroir.
The nose reveals red cherry, strawberry, redcurrant and dried rose petals, alongside baking spice, herbs and subtle earthy notes. Elegant and finely structured, the palate combines vibrant red fruit with silky tannins, fresh acidity and a distinctive chalky mineral finish. Falstaff awarded the wine 93 points, while Robert Parker's Wine Advocate rated it 92 points, praising its finesse, salinity and ageing potential.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A beautifully refined German Pinot Noir that sits stylistically between Burgundy and the modern German school of Spätburgunder. Perfumed, mineral and highly food-friendly, it pairs wonderfully with duck, roast chicken, pork loin, mushroom dishes and charcuterie. Enjoy now with a short decant or cellar through 2035–2038 as it develops further complexity.
