Phillip Jones has been making wine in Gippsland since 1979. Though he makes his wine traditionally in a minimal intervention manner, this belies the level of perfectionism that has come to epitomise Bass Phillip’s vineyard practices and winemaking. The wines of Bass Phillip display flavours and characters which show astonishing vibrancy and grace.
The aroma is an inviting blend of Burgundian-like cherry fruit, hints of earth and a most alluring spiciness. There is also some of the forest floor for which the Bass Phillip pinots have become famous. The flavours dance around the mouth with vibrant berry fruits, earth and spice. There is substantial weight in the middle palate and the flavours persist for a long time. This is a quintessential Estate wine and will repay cellaring if you can keep your hands off opening.
