The vineyard’s light clay-limestone soils and mature vines, some approaching 80 years old, give the wine an elegant combination of perfume, fine red fruit and mineral depth. The 2024 shows ripe raspberry and dark cherry alongside violet, potpourri, subtle earthy notes and gentle brown spice.

On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, with crisp acidity, fine-grained tannins and layers of raspberry, red cherry and darker berry fruit. Floral notes of violet and potpourri add aromatic lift, while limestone-derived mineral character, gentle allspice and earthy spice bring further complexity. The texture is polished and graceful, with a gentle tannic grip giving the wine shape and length without overwhelming its delicate fruit. The finish is dry, persistent and finely detailed, with lingering red berry, floral, mineral and savoury notes.

Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Burgundy drinkers and Pinot Noir collectors seeking a refined Volnay Premier Cru with perfume, finesse and understated depth. The 2024 vintage is still youthful and will benefit from time in bottle as the tannins, fruit and savoury notes become more integrated. Best enjoyed from around 2029–2038. Pair with roast duck and cherry jus, roast quail with wild mushrooms, veal with mushroom sauce, venison with gentle spice, or truffle and porcini risotto.

Info

COUNTRY

France

PRODUCER

Benjamin Leroux

VARIETY

Pinot Noir

STYLE

Red Wine

VINTAGE

2024

SIZE

750ml

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0574/6779/7699/files/2024BenjaminLerouxVolnay1erCruClosdelaCavedesDucs.jpg?v=1793642904
