2006-chateau-canon
2006 Chateau Canon

The 2006 Château Canon is a mature Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend from Saint-Émilion’s limestone plateau, offering the elegance and savoury complexity that make this historic Bordeaux estate so compelling. A Premier Grand Cru Classé, Canon occupies a privileged position close to the medieval village, where clay over limestone provides the foundation for its finely structured wines. The Wertheimer family, owners of Chanel, purchased the estate in 1996, beginning a substantial programme of investment and renewal. The 2006 captures an earlier chapter in that revival, combining generous fruit with freshness, mineral definition and an emphasis on balance.

Expect black cherry, blackcurrant and wild strawberry, complemented by mocha, dried herbs and earthy complexity. In his ten-year retrospective, Neal Martin awarded the wine 93 Points for The Wine Advocate, describing an expressive bouquet with orange zest and mushroom alongside supple dark fruit, impressive structure and a saline character. Roger Voss also awarded 93 Points for Wine Enthusiast, highlighting blackberry, chocolate and bitter coffee balanced by vibrant acidity. Together, these assessments suggest a wine with both richness and lift, whose appeal lies in the interplay between ripe fruit, freshness and the savoury detail that develops with age.

Info

COUNTRY

France

PRODUCER

Chateau Canon

VARIETY

Merlot, Cabernet Franc

STYLE

Red Wine

VINTAGE

2006

SIZE

750ml
