2016 M.Chapoutier La Bernardine Chateauneuf-Du-Pape

2016 M.Chapoutier La Bernardine Chateauneuf-Du-Pape

The blending of grape varieties is a characteristic of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. In La Bernardine red, Grenache is the main grape used in the blend, with a smaller proportion of Syrah and Mourvèdre. The Grenache is a grape variety that brings a natural sweetness to the blend, which gives the wine elegance, silky tannins and great finesse.

Still in concrete, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape la Bernardine is the most flattering young version of this cuvée I can recall tasting. Loaded with black cherry fruit, it’s full-bodied, rich and velvety yet not overdone, showing subtle dried spice notes and a long, fresh finish. It should drink well for a decade.
